Ambulatory/Urgent Care Medicine is defined as provision of immediate medical service (no appointment necessary) offering outpatient care for the treatment of acute and chronic illness and injury. Urgent Care Medicine requires a broad, comprehensive fund of knowledge to provide such care.
The AAUCM can is the only urgent care organization that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the only urgent care medicine organization represented in the Specialty and Service Society
of the American Medical Association
(www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/15378.html) . Also, the AAUCM, in cooperation with the AMA, was successful in having Urgent Care Medicine, (UCM) established as a self-designated/practice specialty code by the AMA.
In addition, the American Board of Urgent Care Medicine (ABUCM), the certifying body of the AAUCM, is the only organization in the U.S. functioning to certify properly qualified candidates in the specialty of Urgent Care Medicine.
